Tesla presented its annual results this week, derived from what was achieved in the last quarter of 2016. It must be said that the thirst for information around the Tesla Model 3 has been temporarily filled. The manufacturer has confirmed that in July will begin production of the model, and that in 2017 will produce between 25,000 and 35,000 units. Tesla CEO Elon Musk expects that by the end of the year will produce 5,000 units of the model weekly, to reach 10,000 per week in 2018.
These figures are somewhat more realistic than the 100,000 predicted at first, and is that, as you know, Tesla’s road to the Tesla Model 3 project is not only difficult, it is also complex. In any case, the latest manufacturer statement did not leave his ambition aside. They expect between 47,000 and 50,000 deliveries of the Tesla Model S and Tesla Model X in the first half, and they surprise us by revealing their intentions to build up to five megafactories.
They think that in a few years the demand for electric cars is going to be so great that they are already planning a worldwide response, just as they did with the current battery factory in Nevada.
The number ofmegafactories they foresee is five, starting to count for a second that, has some trick, is already projected in Buffalo, in the state of New York, where the one acquired by Tesla, Solar City, already has its facilities . At the moment this last one has not planned to begin with the manufacture of batteries for electric car, but if for homes (the called Tesla Powerwalls). The production there will begin this summer, with 1,400 workers in the workforce.
The other three megafactories will focus on the batteries of the company’s electric cars. Last year already announced that in 2017 we would talk about the construction of a secondmegafactories in Europe. The news will therefore be completed with two other plants, which could be located in places like India or China.
Indeed, in the European case, more and more United Kingdom is being repeated as a possible venue (will it be the last affinities between Musk and Donald Trump?) In any case, this is still within the realm of speculation. What is more certain is that by the end of 2017 we will know more.
