A few months ago several smartphones of the Xiaomi brand were launched especially for the high-end market, I refer to Mi Note 2 and Mi Mix. But Xiaomi is one of those companies that has diversified its production a long time ago.
Therefore, this manufacturer always comes with products to suit all tastes, and mid-range and low-end smartphone markets are no exception. This is the main reason why a few days ago launched two smart phones, pocket-sized budgets, named Xiaomi Redmi 4 and Xiaomi Redmi 4A. In this case we will take a look at the key features of the Xiaomi Redmi 4.
Xiaomi Redmi 4: Design
Xiaomi has already managed to copy the strategy of the best brands that manufacture their flagships with metal shells. For example, the long-awaited Xiaomi Mi 5S failed due to the lack of a ceramic shell. Therefore, this company thinks that metal housings are what high-end devices need. But this statement is not true for all models. As you know, the stylish Xiaomi Mi Mix comes with a completely ceramic shell, but it is not solid, as demonstrated in some cases. So I guess these two reasons affected Xiaomi’s decision to pack her phones into a metal body instead of any other material. But it should be noted that there are some improvements in the manufacturing process of a metal body.
Like its predecessor, the Xiaomi Redmi 4 comes with a fully metal housing. However, since the market is full of devices designed in 3 stages, Xiaomi has decided to do so as a one-piece phone. As a result, the body has gone through 30 processes, including the blasting process and the CNC diamond cutting process.
Unlike the Xiaomi Redmi 3, which comes with a textured back lid, this time we see that the manufacturer has made it simple, but tangled. Although the Xiaomi Redmi 4 is a mid-range phone around $ 100, it looks like a first-class device thanks to its incredible design.
As for the front panel, we have a 5-inch screen with a resolution of 720p. It is capable of displaying anything at any angle, both indoors and outdoors, and even under direct sunlight. Thanks to its excellent screen the content will have vivid colours and clear photos. It also has a 2.5D crystal to protect the screen, but one would expect to see something like this because almost all Chinese smartphone manufacturers use this technology to replace the Corning Gorilla Glass technology.
The phone is not so light, weighs 156 grams, and is mainly due to the presence of a large battery inside. Its dimensions are also standard for a phone in this category: 141.3 x 69.6 x 8.9 mm.
As for the location of the different buttons and ports, the front carries a speaker and a front camera on the top, the right side comes with a volume button and an unlock button, the left side carries a SIM card slot, the mini USB port are located at the bottom and the 3.5mm audio connector at the top. And what is more interesting, the back panel comes with a rear camera as well as an operative fingerprint scanner that is almost the same as we found in the Xiaomi Mi 5S.
Xiaomi Redmi 4: Performance
It is known for sure that the Xiaomi Redmi 4 will come in two versions, but there are also two different processors. The Xiaomi Redmi 4 in its basic version is equipped with an octa-core processor Snapdragon 430 from Qualcomm with clock of 1.4 GHz and paired with Adreno 505 GPU with clock of 450 MHz, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of ROM.
On the other hand, the Xiaomi Redmi 4 Pro has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core CPU set at 2.0GHz and with a large Adrenal 506 GPU tandem with 650MHz, 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM. However, both phones have TF card port for memory expansion. However, I suppose this is not surprising, since the Xmiomi Redmi 4 and his brother had been seen in TENNA.
Both models were benchmarked, and showed average scores, which means they run most games smoothly, but there will be difficulties related to heavy graphics games.
Xiaomi Redmi 4: Battery
The battery of the devices of the Redmi series has always had a great capacity. The penultimate version had a battery of 4100mAh, and the same can be found in the Xiaomi Redmi 4. The battery showed a 76% load after 5 hours of normal use. In addition, 20 minutes of 3D games downloaded the phone only 4%, this means that the device can run for about two days if used moderately.
In contrast, the 5V / 2A load does not support any fast charging option, so the Xioami Redmi 4 charges 23% in 30 minutes. So the phone will take 2.5 hours to fully charge.
As for connectivity, the Xiaomi Redmi 4 comes with dual SIM card slot compatible with China Mobile, China Unicom, China Telecom 4G / 3G / 2G bands. The Pro version also supports 4G +, so there is no problem here.
Xiaomi Redmi 4: Camera
It seems that both versions come with the same 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. But the Xiaomi Redmi 4 Pro comes with a dual-tone flash, which means it will be more accurate with white balance. However, the Xiaomi Redmi 4 phones are compatible with the PDAF phase approach and technology that improves the quality of low-light images, a feature typically found in high-end phones. On the other hand, the two cameras come with aperture f / 2.2, which means there will be some noise in the photos. Here are some photos taken with the Redmi 4, it is recommended to open them in a new tab for more detail:
Xiaomi Redmi 4: Pros
- Metal design with CNC process.
- Nice hardware, Snapdragon Cpu.
- Better camera, it generates better pictures even in low light.
- Incredible battery life, can last up to 2 days under moderate use.
Xiaomi Redmi 4: Cons
- Resolution 720 pixels.
- Still based on Android 6.0
Conclusions of the Xiaomi Redmi 4
If we compare the Xiaomi Redmi 3 with the Xiaomi Redmi 4, we can see that the manufacturer has made a list of anticipated changes, including a high-end housing and a faster processor. Thus, the mid-range Redmi series is approaching high-end smartphones, and customers have a good chance to get their hands on some phones that are very close to a high-end category, but with a low cost.
