They open a Ryzen Threadripper 1950X and extract their chips

how do they do it...!

The secret of the success of the Ryzen and Ryzen Threadripper processors is that they all use as a fundamental basis a chip called Zeppelin, which includes Zen kernels. Each Zeppelin consists of two units known as nucleus complex (CCX), and each of them in turn includes four physical cores and related logic as the cache.

Previously it has been seen that the Ryzen Threadripper includes four Zeppelin, but it was not clear if in those with 16 cores they had two normal Zeppelins and two that did not work or were simply false and put in place to cover the gap. Der8auer has uncovered a Ryzen Threadripper 1950X bought in store.

The Threadripper have the same design as the EPYC servers, which can reach 32 physical cores with four complete Zeppelin chips. Des8auer has proven that the Threadripper does include four real Zeppelin chips, but predictably two of them will have various defects and will be physically covered, so it will be highly unlikely that they can get unlocked in any way – but there is always the possibility.

AMD has previously indicated that the Ryzen Threaripper only include the best Zeppelin pickups to keep the frequencies and consumption indicated by the company well. Although not something that will do in the short term, AMD would always have the possibility to put on sale in the sector consumption chips of 24 or 32 cores (64 logical cores) similar to the EPYC.
